Led by Universal Studios Home Entertainment’s Snow White and the Huntsman, four new releases captured the top four spots on the national home video sales charts the week ending Sept. 16.
Snow White, starring Twilight’s Kristen Stewart,
rode its $155.1 million U.S. theatrical gross to a No. 1 debut on both
the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks overall disc
sales, and VideoScan’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
The complete fifth season of the TV show The Big Bang Theory from Warner, bowed at No. 2 on First Alert and No. 3 on the Blu-ray Disc chart, while the long-awaited Blu-ray Disc debut of Titanic, from Paramount, debuted at No. 2 on the Blu-ray Disc chart and pushed the title up to No. 3 on First Alert.
Another Universal title, the direct-to-video Barbie: The Princess and the Popstar, debuted at No. 4 on First Alert, while Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games slipped to No. 5 after regaining the No. 1 spot the prior week. On the Blu-ray Disc chart, The Hunger Games also wound up at No. 5, one notch behind Anchor Bay’s Spartacus: Vengeance, which bowed at No. 6 on First Alert.
Snow White generated 55% of its first-week sales from the
Blu-ray Disc format. The film, a dark retelling of the popular
fairytale, sold more units than the four other top 5 First Alert titles
combined.
